i just finished watching Infernal Affair I, II, and III. it is really a good trilogy. it has one of the most complicated plot ever produced in a movie. usually a movie plot is simpler than a plot in book. this is because movies can't show every angle of the characters like a book can describe. hence, even movies derived from books are usually a simplified version, keeping only the core plot. infernal affair is different in the sense that it is able to show the different sides of the characters. it is ingenius the way the story unfolds: infernal affair I (present), infernal affair II (past) and finally infernal affair III (conclusion, all questions answered).
i was a bit surprised about the ending of the first movie. how could the bad guy live and the good guy die? it seems unfair. but then again, life is not always fair. the 2nd installment shows the past of both andy lau and tony leung. here, both characters are potrayed with both sides. i guess 2nd movie is trying to tell us that everyone has a good side and people don't choose to be bad. there's also a thin line between good and bad. what is good and what is bad? is betraying your family to be a good police good? and is betraying the police to protect your loved one bad? who is the bad guy and who is the good guy anyway? finally, the last movie wraps everything up. the truth is finally revealed and all unanswered questions answered. this also reaffirms the saying of "What goes around comes around" quoted often in the 2nd movie.
i do hope there are more good movies like this. it has depth and it reflects the real world, real life. i wonder if the movie based on real life story? just hope that the hollywood version of infernal affair doesn't suck too much!
